Meet Our Team

  • Dr. Tyler Hughes

I'm often asked why I became a veterinarian, but I never imagined myself doing anything else. I was fortunate in life that I was able to follow my passion, first with a science degree at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and then my veterinary degree at the Atlantic Veterinary College. After school we spent 6.5 years in large progressive veterinary clinics in Western Canada, but being from this area, our hearts were always here and the opportunity to move back home to work and raise our family was too good to pass up and in 2015 Kristina and I purchased Sackville Animal Hospital.

Kristina and I live on a hobby farm with our two daughters, 4 dogs, 3 cats, 2 horses and numerous other small farm animals. When outside of the hospital, I like to golf, watch as many Leaf games as I can and spend as much time with my family as I can fit in the day. For me there is nothing more important than family and I consider pets part of the family. My goal day in and day out is to try and make sure that people get as much quality and quantity with their furry family as possible. I enjoy preventative medicine, dental health and cancer treatment but above all the uniqueness that each day in veterinarian medicine brings.

  • Dr. Kristina Hughes

Dr. Kristina is originally from Moncton and has known from a young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian. She has been practicing veterinary medicine since 2008, when she graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College.  Kristina worked in a mixed animal practice in PEI for 1 year prior to moving out west and practicing in busy hospitals in Vancouver and Alberta. It was in Alberta that Kristina was able to gain a large amount of surgical experience and expertise, and learned how it was important for her to return home to her roots to own her own practice.

Kristina has performed several advanced training courses on orthopedics, and has an avid interest in anything surgery related.  Dr. Kristina also has training in abdominal ultrasonography, and endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures. In her spare time Kristina enjoys spending time with her family, especially daughters Emmy and Hazel, many animals, including horses, dogs, cats and chickens, and most recently, honeybees!  She also enjoys gardening, kayaking, quilting, crocheting, swimming, wine, and time with friends.  Kristina values your pets just like she values her own, and puts a high priority on everyone having a good experience at the vet!
