When should I consider euthanasia for my pet?

The main thing to consider is if your pet’s quality of life is being impacted by their current condition. However, there’s never a right time to respectfully end your pet’s life. Whether your pet is struggling with an incurable disease, painful injury or aging, it’s never easy to say goodbye. Our veterinary team can consult with you about your pet’s medical condition to provide you with all the information you need to make the right decision for you. What does euthanasia mean for my pet?

Euthanasia means our veterinary team will give your pet special medicine to end their life. During the procedure, we’ll inject them with medicine that causes seizures. It will almost instantaneously stop their heart and brain. The procedure will only take a matter of minutes and your pet won’t experience any pain. You can join your pet during the procedure, if you’d like to. We want to give you the option to spend your pet’s last moments with them.

How can I support my family?

Grief is difficult for each person. It’s hard to predict how you or your family might react. If you’re struggling with the loss of your pet, our veterinary team is here to provide whatever support you may need. It might be helpful to decide ways you’d like to honour your pet’s passing. This could look like a memorial service or gathering with loved ones to share positive memories about your pet. There are also grief counselling or other support groups that can provide you with a community who will understand what you’re going through.
